1. Get the Schools Built and Modernized..

We keep moving forward without any "accurate" budget. If you keep moving forward without knowing how much you have, you will have to keep moving money around to try to finish the job. This leaves other schools short changed in their modernization needs.Plan "B" for Castaic should have been implemented a while back. The board should have been looking for other avenues and ways of making the project happen in the event the first plan failed.

The board has been "reactionary" as opposed to "preventative" with the Measure V planning and funding.I would push the board and Superintendent to have a more active role with local business and community leaders with regard to the next 20 years of building educational facilities in this district.I would also be working on plans and goals to facilitate the building and acquiring of plans and space for the schools that will be needed in the near future (10-15-20 years down the road). As a board member, I would push to direct the board to have the facilities foundation put a road map together NOW as to supporting future building.

2. Vocational Training... Regional Trade School Still nothing happening. The district does not take it seriously.Even after the last polling and open planning meetings with parents, the Hart Board showed it as the number 2 most important item. We need to build relationships with local businesses willing to put time and resources into this community. We need to look at how other districts have adopted cooperative training programs together with local businesses to help supplement program expenses. We also need to make sure that the high school PAC's get built, as the District promised, so other "trades" such as arts, drama and band get taken care of as well.

3. Diversity in the Community

We really need to address our increasingly diverse communities, such as Asian, Hispanic and Armenian.Ignoring their differences and needs could be disastrous. We need to make sure these communities are acknowledged and addressed as it pertains to vocational training and academics. We need to make sure all kids get a balanced education including basic work skills, expectations in the work place and work programs. These are just as important as academics for many parents and students.
