Candidate for
Governing Board Member; Whittier Union High School District

Dear Friends & Voter:

Durng this past term I have continued to work diligently to improve the quality of instruction and educational programs at all of our high schools, while holding the line on spending.

Whittier Union High School District has been recognized as a Top School District in LA COunty raising student achievement through our rigorous curriculum & instruction.

Whittier Union is a dynamic school district. We have implemented a rigorous curriculum aligned to new state standards preparing our students for academic success.

We have appointed effective instructional School Leaders; and established "safer schools" by appointing fulltime peace officers at each high school. I applaud the outstanding efforts of our students, parents, school volunteers, education foundations, teachers, staffs, and administration... Working together we have made progress.

Our school modernization & new construction projects are progressing thanks to you the voters. Whittier Union's Governing Board has advocated for and secured: $98 million (local bond) $58 million (FEMA) and millions of dollars in matching funds (State bond).

Highlights of Accomplishments:

- District API (Test) Scores have increased "Six Straight years" in a row.

- 3 of our 5 high schools are now, "California Distinguished Schools."

- 99.4% of our Seniors passed the California High School Exit Exam (2007).

- Safety First: We have maintained our Fulltime Peace Officers at each high school.

- We have implemented a state of the art automated message system to parents fro school (Tele-Parent).

- Doubled the number of "Student Progress Reports" going home to parents - 8 times per school year (every 4 1/2 weeks).

- We have successfully established a working collaboration with our (feeder) Elementary School Districts.

I will continue to ensure fiscal responsibility and proper management of Whittier Union's finances.

I am deeply comitted to working with our government officials, businesses, and school community groups to provide the best educational opportunities for our children.
