Board Member; Hartnell Community College District; Trustee Area 1

Hartnell needs leadership to take it beyond its recent problems and into its proper future as the Salinas Valley's premier institution for higher learning. I am the candidate to get this done.

Building Community Ties, Expanding Vocational Education: Local businesses are demanding trained employees. Hartnell must grow and expand the Agriculture Business Technology Institute and other vocational programs such as construction technology. To meet the needs of industry, Hartnell must listen to the Community's needs and forge lasting relationships with the local business community.

Increasing Community Accessibility: Hartnell must increase accessibility to all potential students in Salinas and North County. The East Campus will be an incredible asset, and will increase enrollment at Hartnell, bringing additional revenue to expand programs. As our local populace becomes more educated, the Valley will awaken with new vision and opportunity.

Sound Fiscal Management: Recently trustees, administration and educators found themselves in conflict. Trustees must demand that all dialogue be open, honest and transparent. Hartnell must expand efforts to retain and attract the best educators in the state. Hartnell's budget must be managed like a business, eliminating wasteful spending, and investing in our two greatest assets, students and educators.
