As a Board Member from 1998 through 2003 (Board President in 2001) I actively contributed to the district's achievements. As an attorney and a former member of the Legislative Committee of the San Mateo County School Boards' Association, I understand the "big picture" - the role of our district in the larger scheme of California public education.
During my term on the School Board, the district moved forward on many fronts, including the development and implementation of an innovative futures plan, including academic excellence, capital improvements, technology development, and partnerships with parents, businesses, and the community -- all aimed at fostering student learning.
I am proud to have contributed to the many accomplishments the District has had during the six years I served on the Belmont-Redwood Shores Elementary School District Board. Some of those accomplishments are:
- Phase II expansion of Sandpiper School
- The Ralston Project -- Construction of a new gym and science wing and modernization of classrooms and facilities at Ralston Middle School
- Major renovation and repair work was accomplished at Central, Nesbit, Cipriani, and Fox
- Class size reduction
- Investment in our technology infrastructure, leveraging bond funds with partnerships and grants from local corporations
- Positive, forward moving realtionships between the district and the cities of Belmont and Redwood City
- Supporting the creation and operation of the district foundation "School Force"
- Encouraging involvement of parents, teachers, staff, and the community as a whole in district decisionmaking
- We remained financially responsible
All this translated into better learning for our children. Much remains to be done. As the district faces the continuing challenges posed by its growth, I want to work to ensure quality programs and to provide the best possible education to all of our children.
