Why and how the MCC has to change.

Repairing MCC rapport with its public on the way to self governance.

The facts as I see them from serving for the last 45 months as an elected member of the Midcoast Community Council (MCC).

Current Status

1) The MCC (7 residents) was created by the San Mateo Board of Supervisors (BoS) as an advisory group to make recommendations regarding Coastside Issues.

2) The MCC no longer appears to to accurately represent the majority of Coastsiders.

3) Therefore the MCC is now of limited use to the San Mateo BoS.

4) The election this fall is to fill three of seven slots. Only one person has registered to run this fall.

5) An MCC election costs the county $20,000. It is not worth repeating what happened during the last election.

6) Without elections, MCC empty slots are filled by appointment, resulting in appointees appointing appointees.

7) Currently only one MCC member registered, campaigned, ran and was elected by the public for their current term.

8) This person (the author) recently discovered the MCC has been operating without BoS approved Bylaws.

9) The lack of Bylaws has created ambiguity as to MCC function, permitting a minority of MCC members to abuse the public in the area of planning and zoning (P&Z).

10) This has effectively destroyed public trust and interest which perpetuates the intolerable, unstable and perhaps even illegal situation.
