Political Philosophy for Douglas "Doug" Mackintosh
Candidate for |
I believe that an elected offical is a servant of the community that placed him in office. I believe it is his/her responsibility to inform and listen to the voice of the people (please see my position paper on goals) I believe the attitude of service to the community, especially in a service organization like the fire department, comes before all else. It comes before new engines or fire houses or reserves. It comes before firefighter wages and benefits. It is the core of what public service should be about. I believe there is a high community value in firefighters who live and work in the community. This resource needs not be given up lightly and a $700,000 surplus in the fiscal year 2006-2007 and an estimated $3 million in reserves by the end of this fiscal year needs to give us pause and a re-evaluation of whether contracting out for fire services is best for our community. |
