My Unique Qualifications for the Office of South San Francisco City ClerkBy Krista Martinelli-LarsonCandidate for City Clerk; City of South San Francisco | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
My unique qualifications to serve as our City Clerk are as follows: (1) SKILL: my career as an attorney and study of multiple City Clerks in San Mateo County has prepared me for the responsibilities of the Office; (2) INDEPENDENCE: I have sought to maintain the integrity and independence of the Office by not seeking endorsements from Council; and (3) SERVICE: My immersion in our Community ensures that the Office will be run in line with our City's collective and diverse interests. SKILL. The Clerk is responsible for maintaining the City's records, managing the City Council's meeting and recording process, meeting public requests for records in line with government regulations and implementing elections in compliance with the Elections Code and County Regulations. My experience as an attorney in the government regulatory field directly translates to successful fulfillment of these tasks and includes, but is not limited to: construction of document management strategies and databases; management of hard copy and electronic records requests in a timely, efficient and cost-effective manner; and counseling governing bodies with respect to compliance issues. I have also job shadowed City Clerks in San Mateo County and have met with, interviewed and learned from the experiences of City Clerks in numerous cities. These experiences have prepared me for the position and I will receive additional training at the California League of Cities New Law & Election Seminar in December. INDEPENDENCE. Our former City Clerk, Hon. Sylvia Payne (Ret.) stressed the importance of neutrality in the City Clerk's Office. The Clerk's job is to ensure that the City Council's affairs remain open and public in compliance with California's open meeting laws. For this reason I have not endorsed a Candidate in the race for the two open City Council seats and I did not seek the endorsement of current City Council members. Under my leadership, the office will be immune from conflict of interest. SERVICE. South San Francisco deserves a personal connection to the City Clerk--the Peoples' front-line interface with local government. Along with being born and raised here, my dedication to my fellow residents, family and friends who live in our community ensures that the Office will be your liaison at City Hall. The doors of the Clerk's Office will be open and inviting whether you have dealings with the Clerk or require information regarding the City. The City Clerk is the customer service interface between residents and local government. I enjoy bettering my community and have a long history of volunteer service, including but not limited to, service as: advisory board member to Break the Cycle, a domestic violence prevention organization, street law instructor in public high schools, probono advocate for the Youth Law Center and compliance volunteer for the Junior League, and member of the Renovation Committee at All Souls Parish. In each role, I have been privileged to have learned from helping others. I respectfully ask for your vote on Election Day. |
