Playing Fields and ParksBy Christine WozniakCandidate for City Council Member; City of Belmont | |

I support the Belmont Sports Complex and all of our playing fields and parks. Recreation is an essential community value.I wholeheartedly support Sports and Recreation in Belmont. A wide variety of opportunities are currently available and there are more that we can create for our diverse (in interest and in age) population. Here are just a few: Team Sports. Our children benefit from the invigorating exercise, learning what it is to be a part of a team, and the clear-headedness that a good workout brings. Belmont has large Soccer, Soft Ball, Baseball, and Football communities. We need to assure that there are enough places to play sports and that these opportunities remain open. The Sports Complex is a key team sport venue--I support retaining and maintaing the Sports Complex. Once a park or field is closed, it's gone--and we need all the fields and parks we have and more. Cycling. My husband Rick has been a cyclist and has been riding on the roads of the Bay Area for decades. We need to assure sports cyclists, as well as those who use their bikes for transportation, have a safe transit throughout Belmont. We need bike lanes all the way from 280 to across 101 to Redwood Shores, connecting the existing lanes and making them all safe. Walking and Hiking. Belmont is blessed with many trails and city walks. I'd like to extend our walking trail maps to include City Walks around the themes of the Downtown Historic District, Historic Houses, NDNU Campus, and other key attractions. We also need to assure safe walking on our main thoroughfares, especially Ralston Avenue. There are many more sports and recreation opportunities and I support them all--from skateboarding to ballroom dancing. |
