1. What are your qualifications for office? (50 word limit)

Answer from Joel F. McGuire:
City leadership training and experience from the OML's Municipal Leadership Training Academy and four years on Harrison City Council.
Leadership and management training from Army ROTC, Army Officer Basic Course, and Army Ranger School. Leadership and management experience from leading Platoons in Kuwait and Bosnia as an Army Ranger officer.

2. What plans do you have to address your top three priorities? (100 word limit)

Answer from Joel F. McGuire:
I'll hire a quality, experienced Economic Development Director (EDD) to assist me in targeting and recruiting quality businesses for development and redevelopment purposes. The EDD and I will (i) identify specific businesses in the areas of light manufacturing, utilities, office parks, educational facilities, and medical facilities, (ii) research their business models and expansion and relocation plans, (iii) contact and meet the companies to discuss business opportunities in Harrison, and (iv) follow up after the meeting, repeating this process until results are achieved. Simultaneously, we'll revise the City Charter, Land Use Plan, and Zoning Code to better accomodate and manage the inevitable growth coming to Harrison.

3. State three actions that you recommend to promote regional cooperation, and explain how you would implement each action? (150 word limit)

Answer from Joel F. McGuire:
The City's Mayor and the City Council representative to the OKI Regional Council of Governments are the two individuals primarily responsible for representing the City to public and private groups in our region. I will appoint a City Council representative that can ensure that Harrison retains the Executive Committee assignment I've earned as the current City representative to OKI. As Mayor, I will consider it one of my primary duties to proactively and frequently meet with county, state, and federal officials to ensure regional cooperation and to maximize Harrison's funding opportunities with those officials and agencies.
