1. What are your qualifications for office? (50 word limit)

Answer from Cassandra N. Brown:
I served as Norwood's Ward 5 council representative for two terms. I am currently employed with Horizon Certified Development Company in Norwood, administering the SBA 504 loan program to help business owners. My experience in banking and business development uniquely qualifies me to assist in the development of small businesses.
Answer from Michael D. Gabbard:
I have been fortunate to have been voted twice to represent our citizens. I feel with the experence of how City Hall works will continue to help me help the people to get what they want done. When I took the oath of this office I set aside my personal beliefs and took on the responsiblity of representing the people as to what THEY WANT. I will continue to do just that.

2. What plans do you have to address your top three priorities? (100 word limit)

Answer from Michael D. Gabbard:
1. Community Security = All of our city departments must have the tools they need to keep our city safe & secure.
2. Street Repair Program = This is the biggest issue people want to know about. Our streets have not been given the attention they need and are now need of major attention. An aggressive program must be instituted.
3. Customer Friendly City Services = We need to make it easier for the citizen of Norwood to contact, pay bills and do business with all of our city departments.
Answer from Cassandra N. Brown:
We need to better manage our city finances. We need to use our available resources to make sure all eligible taxpayers pay their fair share and implement a tax amnesty program.
We need to offer business incentives and improve Montgomery Road to encourage business development. We need to be proactive in our business development, constantly working to retain our current businesses, as well as working to re-use older facilities where possible.
We need to offer incentives for home improvement and keep crime out of our neighborhoods. We need to encourage and control potential development to keep property taxes low.

3. State three actions that you recommend to promote regional cooperation, and explain how you would implement each action? (150 word limit)

Answer from Michael D. Gabbard:
Norwood currently works well with our surrounding communities and Xavier University.
Answer from Cassandra N. Brown:
If elected, I would insure that Norwood is fully represented in the various regional organizations that exist right now. Representation of Norwood within OKI is critical, as we saw with the previous fiasco with light rail. I feel we need the county commissioner's elected positions to be expanded to more elected seats. Additional representation would allow for more input from the county's citizens, including Norwood. I would ask our elected state representatives to be more involved in this goal of regional cooperation. I would insure that cooperation within the health and safety services is progressing, and investigate unique means of funding to this end, such as asking our state officials for grants to accomplish this.
