Having lived in Whittier since 1948, I have a passion & love for our unique community. My great grandparents, grandparents and father came to Whittier in 1920. Six generations of our family have now lived here.
My early years were spent growing up in West Whittier attending Longfellow elementary school & Dexter Jr. High. After school time was spent at the Uptown YMCA where I was a Junior Leader & also participating in Girl Scouts.
My family moved to East Whittier where I finished up at East Whittier Junior High & went on to graduate from California High School.
Following high school, I attended Fullerton Junior College where I wrote sports stories for the college newspaper, was named a "Woman of Distinction" and received an A.A. degree After attending BYU for a year, I attended the University of Missouri at Kansas City graduating with a B.S. in Dental Hygiene.
While attending college, I married Dave Warner who graduated from Kansas State University in Chemical Engineering. Soon after graduation we returned to Whittier to raise our family. Dave graduated from USC Dental School then completed a Periodontal Residency at Wadsworth V.A. Medical Center. We have had our Periodontal practice in East Whittier for 25 years where I practice Dental Hygiene.
Our seven children have all attended Ocean View elementary, East Whittier Middle & La Serna High Schools. My community involvement began at Ocean View where I served as the Dental Health Chairman for many years. After serving as President of the East Whittier Educational Foundation & as a member of the East Whittier YMCA board, I was appointed a member of the City of Whittier's Cultural Arts Commission and was then elected as a Governing Board member in 1989 for the East Whittier City Elementary School District while also serving as President of the La Serna High School PTA. My four daughters & I were members of and volunteered our time for 13 years for National Charity League, Whittier Chapter.
In 1990 I served as President of the Friendly Hills Property Owners Association and in 1991 was elected as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Whittier Union High School District serving for 12 years until 2003. During this time I also served for six years as a member of the Governing Board for Tri-Cities ROP.
I also served as Chairman of the Project Area Committee for the Whittier Boulevard Commercial Corridor Redevelopment Project Area until my election to the Whittier City Council in 2004.
In addition to my work with the City, my husband & I enjoy traveling and spending time with our 20 grandchildren.
