State Representative; District 74; Democratic Party

State Representative Camille "Bud" George was first elected to the state House of Representatives in November of 1974. He is currently in his 34th consecutive year of service to the 74th Legislative District, which encompasses most of Clearfield County.

Rep. George was appointed Chairman of the House Conservation (now Environmental Resources and Energy) Committee in 1983, and has since transformed it into one of the most powerful standing committees in the Pa. General Assembly. As Democratic and now majority chairman, he has sponsored and written dozens of environmental initiatives that have earned him a well-deserved reputation as being a leader in the area of environmental protection and natural resource conservation.

Except for time served in the Navy -- he left high school to enlist during World War II -- Rep. George is a lifelong native of Clearfield County. While Rep. George is known in Harrisburg as fiery orator who works diligently on environmental, education, consumer protection and economic-development issues, he takes the greatest pride on serving all the constituents of the 74th District.

Representative George considers himself blessed to have learned immeasurably from the people of Clearfield County and Houtzdale as they shined through wars and depressions, tragedies and triumphs. He continually cites their work ethic and goodness as he represents them at the state Capitol.

Representative George's love of the area and its people runs deep -- from his parents who reared a family during the Depression and World War II to the many families and friends who helped his wife, Edna, and him raise six children.

As the ranking House member of a joint House-Senate Conference Committee in 1988, Rep. George was instrumental in the passage of Act 101, one of the first comprehensive solid waste management and recycling programs in the country.

Rep. George also serves as a member of the Environmental Quality Board, the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PennVEST), the Wild Resource Conservation Board, and the powerful House Rules Committee. He also has been chairman of the House Democratic Northwest Caucus since 1994.
