Individual Liberty:

I believe that individuals should be able to live their lives with as little interference from government as possible. Our government was instituted to protect and maintain our individual liberties. Governments are to serve and protect the people. We, the people, should not be subservient to government.

Freedom versus Security:

How can we trust the people in government when they pass legislation which takes away our freedom? If less freedom means more security, then total security means no freedom. Like living in a cage of our own making. We must risk an equal amount of security for every bit of freedom we seek to enjoy.

Special Interests:

Members of a particular group cannot have more rights than an individual who belongs to no group. Should homosexuals have more protection under the law than heterosexuals? Should a person with a particular ethnic or racial background have more rights than any other person? A member of any religion cannot be given benefits which the members of another religion are denied. If we are all created equally, we must all be treated equally by our government. No special treatment for special interests.

Monetary Policy:

When a unit of currency is used to facilitate trade between people, that currency must have some intrinsic value of its own. If a currency has no value in and of itself, then that particular commodity is essentially worthless. When a group of people can create money out of something as common as paper, it has the nearly irresistible potential for fraud and deceit. For money to have permanent worth, it must be made of something which no human has the ability to create. Since human beings cannot make gold or silver or other rare elements, I support the use of durable metals as currency. If gold or silver seem old-fashioned, why not use titanium or tungsten alloys?
