Measure G - Future ElectionsBy Darcy KuenziCandidate for Council Member; Proposed City of Menifee Valley | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Measure "G" determines how future city council elections are held.An "at large" city council is accountable to all residents of Menifee. Measure "G" determines how future election for the City Council are held, "at large" or "by district". It would be best for residents to elect their council members "at large". As a new City, voters would be best served by FIVE representatives. If the council is elected "at large", it means that every registered voter in the city can choose all FIVE of their elected council members. It also means that any resident can run for council no matter where he or she lives in the new city. An "at large" council will allow you to speak directly with any member of the council about issues you would like to see addressed, not just the ONE councilmember that represents your "district". If the elections were held "by district", you would only be represented by only ONE member of the city council instead of all five elected members. The city would be divided into five separate areas of equal population and you would only be voting for the one council member that represents the district in which you live in. It also means that residents could only run for office in the district that they live in. By electing a council "At large", the members of that council are accountable to ALL residents of the new city, and you would be able to vote for ALL five future council members. Almost all of the cities in Riverside County hold elections "at large" because they know it provides the best representation for their residents - We should do the same. As a brand new City, we will have many issues to address that will affect all of us. We should have a council that is accountable to all of us. Our Council should represent all residents. Vote in "At Large" on MEASURE G |
