Support for universal healthcareBy Jeanette Mott OxfordCandidate for State Representative; District 59; Democratic Party | |

The cost of uncompensated care drives up healthcare costs for all of us. Universal coverage is the best solution.I am pleased to join healthcare workers and community organizations throughout the state who support H.R. 676. Like them, I am a supporter of Congressman Conyers' legislation to create a national health plan. During the 2008 Legislative Session I filed House Concurrent Resolution 42 in support of the Conyers' bill, with the strong backing of the AFL-CIO. Unfortunately the resolution was not granted a hearing. Our resolution deserved an open and honest debate, and no one knows that better than the more than 700,000 Missourians who lack health insurance, including the 180,000+ who have lost coverage due to GOP-backed Medicaid cuts since 2005. It is time to solve the U.S. healthcare crisis by enacting the strong reform in H.R. 676. |
