Candidate for
Board Member; Hayward Unified School District; 2 Year Short Term

I have lived in Hayward for nearly 20 years. I have two sons, both attending Hayward schools. One is in 2nd Grade and one is just starting out in Middle School in 7th Grade.

I have been involved in my children's schooling from very early on. I have served our schools in many capacities including the following:

• Programs Chairperson
• Head Room Parent
• Safety Chairperson
• Volunteer Coordinator
• Library/Computer Lab Volunteer
• Bank Day Program Co-Chairperson
• Multi-cultural Festival PTA Chairperson
• Named PTA Volunteer of the Year

As an active parent in this District for the last 6 years, I could no longer watch our district and community continue down a road so divided.

In the last few years we have experienced the chaos of a strike, instability in administration, the loss of programs, teachers and school closures and we now face huge financial cutbacks. We have grown too familiar with terms like re-directs, leveling and split classes. We worry continuously about losing essential programs for our children like science, library, music and computer technology.

As a member of the School Board, I will work hard to change this direction. I believe we need to open up communications between the community and the District. I believe we need to work hard on developing a trust and re-establishing the integrity of our Administration.
