Parents and children should be offered a variety of quality educational programs which best fit thier needs.Offering greater school choices often sparks greater interest in learning. Desert Sands has been recognized by the US Department of Education as a model for school choice programs. I will work to expand alternatives we have developed which include: a new charter school for middle school students; the highly rigorous International Baccalaureate program; magnet school programs encompassing pre-medicine, pre-law, and communication; home schooling and independent study programs, and the environmental studies program. I will continue efforts to modernize classrooms with state-of-the-art technology; enhance programs in music, art, and the performing arts; and improve facilities for athletic programs. I will work to expand and enhance independent study and distance-learning programs. I will continue to support vocational educational programs as an option for those pursuing careers in construction, culinary arts, public service, and computer technology. |
