? 1. What experience related to city government would you bring to the City Council?

Answer from Susie V. Nagpal:

Over the past six years I have served on the Saratoga Planning Commission as a Member, Vice Chair, Chair and Senior Member. For the past 24 years I have worked on diverse projects that involve large budgets and inter- disciplinary teams in the environmental and engineering field for many municipalities in the bay area. My professional and planning commission experience uniquely qualifies me with important land use and specific city government experience.

Answer from Howard Miller:

I have a history of bring people together to make great things happen for all of our city. I have a very strong management background and training from two of the foremost high-tech companies int he valley: 7+ years with HP and 15+ years with Apple. I am always prepared, work hard, listen to all sides and make well reasoned, thoughtful decisions.

? 2. What concerns are of particular importance to the city and how would you address them?

Answer from Howard Miller:

The current State and County fiscal issues Will impact Saratoga! This is the foremost issue facing our city today. We need to quickly and aggressive take action to assess our current spending, sources on income and reserves. It is clear that we will have a budget shortfall next fiscal year and the sooner we make adjustments to the current spending patterns, the less we will be impact next year.

Answer from Susie V. Nagpal:

In the next few years the City will face important land use decision from development plans in the Village to Quito. These require experience in understanding land use, managing impacts to neighborhoods, environmental issues, traffic impacts, architectural experience and the ability to develop consensus. Balancing the future needs of our City and honoring our historic past requires strong technical abilities and teamwork. I will use my planning background, seek citizen input, and make sustainable land use decisions.

? 3. How would you balance the needs of the City as a whole with groups' interests?

Answer from Howard Miller:

Open access to the council members is key. I am the only candidate that has his home phone number listed in the phone book! I have a history of working with opposing groups to bring people together, see past their fears and get the the great possibilities. I spent 5+ years on the Kevin Moran Park improvement project, ultimately bring together a deal for a park with something for everyone!

Answer from Susie V. Nagpal:

I believe in promoting an open government and actively seeking citizen input. My focus will be on common sense decision making that is analytical and helps build community for ALL Saratogans.
