Political Philosophy for Dale I. Barr, O.D.
Candidate for |
I like as little government as possible. However, public education is crucial to educating tomorrows citizens and informed citizens are crucial to a viable democracy. Life is not fair. Sometimes horribly so. Government can not make it fair. What it can do is provide hope and opportunity. Education is an opportunity all people should embrace. Public education is the only opportunity some children will have. Education is like food however. You have to hunger for it to be absorbed. We must provide equal opportunities for all of our kids in the district but we can not ensure equal outcomes. Parenting is far more important than anything the school distict can offer and we can not be their parents. We must meet each child at their skill level and move them forward. We must be very flexible and recognize that the standardized curriculum is abysmally low for some kids and not possible to achieve for others. We have to meet the educational needs of children whatever their skills are. |
