I believe we need to draw the line against both crime and indecency. In the past twelve months five people died due to manslaughter from traffic accidents. There is illegal use of parks for crime and overnight campign and gangs grafitti is present in our city. I am in favor of promoting increased exercise including the rebuilding of the International Swim Center and finishing the San Tomas Saratoga Creek Trail. I am endorsing the BART to Santa Clara, as proposed in local Measure B of the November ballot as well as of Measure A to help finance the Valley Medical Center. But there is more our city can do. Each mile we drive puts a pound of carbon in the atmosphere. Lets encourage our citizens to be responsible through a voluntary contribution of one penny per mile driven to fund bus passes for the poor as well as helping the homeless. I lived in Sarnia, Ontario which fluoridized its drinking water thirty years ago. Why are we behind on such common sense measures such as this. I am in favor of fluoridizing the water supply. Similarly, children and the elderly are vulnerable to grave illnesses such as pneumonia and influenza. Proceeds of the same voluntary contribution can be used to pay for a yearly visit. Remember the Black Death, epidemics are not a respecter of persons. A natural way to fight greenhouse gases is to build trees, green areas, and plants, and orchards by city residents and businesses as well as the existing green building policy. I am in favor of a natural gas fueling facility at the Silicon Valley Power building and encouraging companies and developors to help with transit facilities. |
