Preserve the unique charm and character of our five communitiesBy Maggie HoulihanCandidate for Council Member; City of Encinitas | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Five unique communities, beautiful beaches, incredible parks and trails. I pledge to work on your behalf to preserve and enhance our beautiful city and the high quality of life we deserve. We live in paradise ... but our ambiance and small-town beach feel are being overwhelmed by development that does not reflect the scale and character of our neighborhoods. Traffic congestion, lack of green space, and houses that go from lot line to lot line are symptoms of runaway growth. I will close loopholes in building ordinances that allow developments to overwhelm our neighborhoods. Encinitas deserves quality projects that blend in with and enhance our communities. I support funding traffic relief measures that reduce speeds and discourage cut-through traffic in our residential neighborhoods. I have supported quality community enhancing projects to completion such as our beautiful, ocean-view library, Cottonwood Tree Park, habitat acquisition, historic downtown streetscape, a fenced off-leash dog park, and the purchase of 43 acres of parkland for a community park. I support pedestrian- and bicycle-friendly ammenities throughout Encinitas to enhance the health and well-being of all our residents. This election will determine whether we prioritize the preservation and enhancement of our quality of life and the charm and character of the five communities in which we live. Working together, we can maintain and preserve our beautiful Encinitas. |
