We live in a changing world. We must prepare today's students for those changes.For too long society has lived today for today. We heard a lot of media hype about conservation but until the cost of Petroleum began to rise and the cost of fuel quickly went out of site the majority of Americans paid little attention. We've all learned that the price of fuel effects the price/cost of almost everything else humans consume. We know that there is a shortage of people trained and educated to work in the alternative energy and Cuesta College has the opportunity to work with the solar folks that are planning solar plants on the Carrisa Plains. I had the opportunity to talk with employees from two of those companies and put them in contact with Toni Sommer. Toni is now working with them and Atascadero School District on curriculum that will train faculty to teach the courses and give Cuesta students the opportunity for on the job training for good high paying jobs. I will continue to look for opportunities that train our faculty and teach our students to meet the needs of the 21st century. |
