Political Philosophy for Jan Marx
Candidate for |
I believe that our City's precious natural, historical and financial resources must be treasured, not wasted. I am a Smart Growth advocate and want to help San Luis Obispo become a model of sustainability. I believe in fiscal responsibility, and will preserve residents' priorities even in face of budgetary cutbacks. My priorities include economic vitality, a well-designed downtown, protected hillsides, neighborhoods and parks, a new senior center, improved bike and pedestrian access, public safety, street maintenance and planning for a prosperous and sustainable future. The outdated pave-and-sprawl LA style of development is not right for San Luis Obispo. We must plan well, to reduce our carbon footprint and reduce the cost of living for residents. I am a business owner and attorney with a strong work ethic. I have prior experience on City Council and the Planning Commission. I will be the voice of the residents on council. What Supervisor Jim Patterson has to say about Jan: "Jan is a capable leader with common sense, vision and experience. She places a high priority on environmental protection, is a business person and has proven herself through her community work. She'll work effectively on the Council to help solve City and regional problems, such as the need for more workforce housing, water, bike paths and alternative transportation." |
