Congress must work together in a bipartisan manner to fix this ailing economy.Congress must work together in a bipartisan manner to fix this ailing economy. I voted against the $700 billion Wall Street bailout because I was unconvinced that it would solve the financial crisis. In particular, I believe this bill did not do enough to protect taxpayers and ultimately failed to address the underlying problems that have led us to this point. We need true reform of a financial system that allowed Wall Street executives to make bad business decisions at the expense of their shareholders and, ultimately, taxpayers. We also need to take steps that will benefit the middle class and help small businesses, including lowering the tax burden, providing greater access to capital, and increasing protections on retirement and savings accounts. |
