Economic RedevelopmentThe Hollywood Park Plan I serve on an ad-hoc committee of the Council that is charged with providing policy oversight to the negotiations with Hollywood Park. With an estimated cost of three billion dollars, this is the largest development in Los Angeles County. As your representative, I advocate to mitigate potential negative outcomes by addressing environmental issues such as traffic, noise, air quality, parking, park land, and municipal services. I'm also fighting to insure that Inglewood residents get our fair share of benefits including jobs, affordable housing, and contracts for local businesses. The Downtown Inglewood/Market Street At the beginning of my term in 2007, economic development was growing on Century Boulevard while other areas were being ignored. I implemented a plan to revitalize Market Street by improving lighting for added safety and acquiring land to facilitate development. I proposed building housing and parking, and bringing new stores to the once bustling downtown commercial center. We have had too many studies that tell us what we could do. We need a plan that is a road map to getting what we want done. I am proposing the hiring of an Engineering and Urban Design firm to prepare a "Downtown Master Plan." Via local control, we will determine the businesses that will enhance our community, i.e. clothing stores, live+work spaces, restaurants, entertainment venues, quality food stores and professional office space. With the discretionary income of Inglewood residents, our downtown should be premier. I want people to think of shopping centers like Third Street Promenade and The Grove, but with housing up above! Residential units in the revitalized Market Street area will be set aside for families and seniors with affordable prices for teachers and other city workers. The Manchester Corridor Plan Manchester Corridor is a top priority of mine. I am leading discussions with property owners to plan its revitalization. Our plan will include transforming vacant lots into parking and temporary business locations while building mixed-use retail/office/residential spaces. Our goal will be to create a neighborhood scaled development offering services and shops similar to those on Larchmont Boulevard and Culver Boulevard. I am always insisting on local ownership, local jobs, and local control. Those who have been on the boulevard and who have earned our support will not be displaced. The residents have and will continue to have a voice as we design the revitalization plan. |
