In April, 2007, the voters of Inglewood elected me to the Inglewood Unified School District Board of Education. Immediately after taking office, I became aware of critical failures in the system such as staffing challenges, inattention to detail, and a lack of independent thinking.

I'm running for re-election because the District needs my leadership, direction and integrity as we fight for higher graduation rates, safer learning environments, and greater family involvement. Once re-elected, I will continue to work toward creating an educational environment that fosters productivity and success for all students regardless of race, creed, color, ethnicity, or socio-economic status.

I am fierce advocate for education. I know that the best way to bring out big change is to deal with the needs of students in and outside of the classrooms. I've spent 20 years creating successful nonprofit programs to help youth fight the odds by raising their self-esteem and providing them with positive activities to fill up their idle time. As an IUSD Board Member, I tailored a mentoring program for at-risk students who need extra support combating epidemics like gang involvement and teenage pregnancy.

In 1998, Inglewood voters chose to invest in the future of our children and schools by passing the bond "Measure K," which raised $131 million for infrastructure improvement. Thanks to this source of income, we've completed projects such as Hudnall Elementary School and Payne Elementary School. However, there is much more work to done. As a fiscal watchdog, I spearheaded efforts to determine the status of the remaining Measure K funds. During my next term, I'll keep a close eye on Measure K spending to ensure that projects are completed quickly, with quality, and under budget.

If you haven't figured it out by now, I'm a fighter who's not afraid to challenge the status quo. With your support, I'll return to the School Board to continue to fight the good fight for Inglewood students and families. Sincerely,

Trina Williams Member, Inglewood School District Board of Education
