The Walnut Valley Unified School District (WVUSD) has been an integral part of my life for the past 25 years. I am thankful of the opportunity my children have had to take part in and thrive under the education provided by our school system. My admiration of this system compelled me to become involved, and I was honored to be voted WVUSD Trustee for two consecutive terms. During my tenure, I am proud to say that I contributed directly to advances in school funding, strengthening academic programs, promoting faculty development, and improving facilities.

When I departed the board in 2005, I was comfortable with the advances our district had made and was optimistic about the overall direction of our school district. However, since that time, our schools have suffered a serious crisis. As concerned parents, we have witnessed the loss of many qualified teachers. Severe cuts in important programs and funding for facilities now endanger our long-standing ranking as one of the top school districts in California. Because of this dire situation and the role WVUSD has played in my life, I am compelled to run for WVUSD Trustee.

If elected, I would utilize my experience to accomplish the following:

1) Form a coalition among WVUSD administration, the teachers union, and classified workers. We must unite these historically-fractured groups to efficiently and effectively address the needs of our children.
2) Facilitate an independent financial audit headed by the school board to analyze and maximize the efficient administration of limited school resources.
3) Conduct an in-depth review of the reserve fund requirements to ensure that sufficient funds are available during difficult economic times
4) Collaborate with other respected institutions of arning to continually improve our curriculum and maintain our standing as one of the best school districts in the state.

As an instructor at the Alhambra Medical University, I understand that effective teaching requires passion and dedication. The recent loss of qualified and dedicated teachers is a shared tragedy for our community, and a development that threatens the quality of education our children receive. The WVUSD board must work to preserve educational programs and resources during difficult economic times, create a safe and stable learning environment for our children, and anticipate future challenges to our schools. If given the opportunity to serve, I will use my experience to work tirelessly to make these goals a reality.
