Barbara Rice has over 30 years experience in education spanning preschool through graduate research institutions. Her Master's Degree is in Education and she possesses California State Certification as a school psychologist and high school principal. Her 25+ years experience in community college administration includes various titles such as Director of Community Education, Director of Evening Degree Programs, and Dean of Students. She has also been a counselor for College of the Redwoods at their sites in Hoopa and Arcata, and occasionally at the main campus in Eureka. Barbara was the Mendocino Coast Campus Administrator of College of the Redwoods from 1997 to 2003. From 2004 to 2008, she worked for the University of California, San Francisco as the North Coast Regional Liaison. She retired last year, but maintains a small, private practice as a mediator. Barbara and her husband, Grant Miller, have taken classes at College of the Redwoods such as Martha Racine's Spanish course and, currently, Greg Grantham's semester-long Bird Identification course. Barbara's son is a 2004 graduate of Mendocino High School and has attended College of the Redwoods both in Fort Bragg and Eureka where he was a dorm resident. Her stepson is currently a senior at Mendocino High School. She also has a married step daughter and two grandchildren. She has been an active listener and knows what our local community wants from their college, but more importantly, understands how to get what we want under California Community College law. |
