Budgets are an issue for the district:
- I will collaborate with staff and unions to work together to ensure that budget constraints are shared equally to preserve critical programs. I will spend down the reserve or borrow from the reserves. I will create a cost analysis of all funds to develop ways to repay spending until federal funds can be recovered. I will retrieve accurate data to make the best decisions in the interest of the district and student.
Sequoia is home to a number of charter schools and part of the most recent bond measure was earmarked to build a campus in East Palo Alto:
- I believe that this is a great opportunity for Sequoia Union High School District to reach out to the East Palo Alto community and create an opportunity for our charter schools to be more involved as well. Introducing this small school concept will offer a catalyst of opportunity for parent and student involvement.
A large push was made recently for expanding vocational education offerings in East Palo Alto:
- I would like to see Adult Education and Literacy, Career and Technical Training and expanding access to Community Colleges. A new facility like that of Sequoia's Adult School and partnerships with the community colleges and programs like Built to Last should be located within East Palo Alto will decrease the achievement gap.
Expanding communication and reaching people from several different cities, which the district spans:
- I would like to see that the District's website be updated to the 21st Century by introducing Facebook and Twitter. I would like to see more opportunity for inter exchange of teaching staff within our feeder schools. This concept can open more doors for parent involvement as our students enter into the high school environment.
