? 1. What are your Qualifications for Office? (50 word limit)

Answer from Barb Kalb:

I have 14 years of experience with city government. My background as a lawyer helps me understand and formulate laws. I know where to get the information I need to make informed decisions. I have the ability to work with people to reach a consensus to get the job done.

? 2. What plans do you have to address your top three priorities? (100 word limit)

Answer from Barb Kalb:

I will continue my work with the CIC to redevelop the Vine Street District as well as develop senior housing. I will vote to make sure that we are spending our city resources wisely, saving money in order to support the development needs of the city. I will also begin discussions to create a cty manager form of governement as well as a consolidation of the Tax Department and Auditor's office to streamline these offices in order to maximize our financial revenues. These discussions should result in a charter amendment to be voted on by the citzens.

? 3. What two actions would you promote to enhance city revenue or decrease city expenditures in order to balance the city budget, given the current economic conditions? (100 word limit)

Answer from Barb Kalb:

I want a city manager to manage the 12+ milion dollar budget. A professonal manager will be able to run the city more efficiently, with less waste. I want to re-evaluate the property taxes in the city to make sure that the need for any levy is still there.

? 4. What steps should the local government take to ensure that the quality of rental property meets minimum legal standards? (100 word limit)

Answer from Barb Kalb:

The City of St. Bernard has a HIP inspector whose job it is to see that the qualit of all property, both rential and owner-occupied, is up to code. I would like to evaluate how we can make our current laws more stringent and enforceable.
