A reformed and improved Borough will provide Residents with a greater sense of Community, which translates to a more desirable Community and an overall better place to live, work and raise your family. Instituting Best Practices means to review all aspects of how the Borough works or doesn't work for you the Resident, Local Business and the Community at large. Then selecting the best methods for effecting the greatest improvements in performance. This is all done with an eye on the costs/savings of such improvements. The end goal is to save your tax dollars where we can and where they are spent to be sure we are getting the most "bang for our buck". Ending Partisanship on Council results in a more efficient governing body, which results in simply better government for Residents, Local Businesses and the Community. Improving Public Safety and Security means working to have a fully staffed Police Department that is well trained and well supplied for their duties. Currently, the Borough has about a half dozen officers less than we should for a Borough of our size. Again, the results would be an overall better place to live, work and raise your family. Improved Planning and Economic Development will attract new businesses to the Borough and encourage current business to stay and hopefully expand within our Community. The greater the vitality of the development and business climate in the Borough the better off we all are as a Community. Restoration of Fiscal Responsibility means No More Deficit Spending. Over the last 7 years, the Total Fund (general, electric and sewer funds) of the Borough has been greatly depleted. In 2001 the Borough had a high of more than $19.5 million. The projected balance for the end of 2009 is just $3.1 million. Council has held the line on your taxes but has propped up the budget using the general fund. In 2008, balancing the budget required $1.5 million from the Fund. One can see that this is unsustainable. Revitalization of Main Street is a key component to Borough-wide revitalization. We've seen several surrounding communities (Doylestown, Phoenixville, Ambler) successfully navigate the revitalization process on their downtowns. Lansdale has been idling. This cannot continue. A revitalized Main Street is needed and it needs the full support of Borough Council, no more foot dragging, and Council needs to provide the leadership to all Borough employees that Lansdale is open for business. Again a revitalized Main Street results in an overall better place to live, work and raise your family. |
