Ballot StatementBy Mark J. BowenCandidate for Member, Board of Trustees; Long Beach Community College District; Trustee Area 3 | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
I'd like to thank you for the privilege of representing our district and being a part of all the good that Long Beach City College does for our community. As the Board of Trustees' only classroom teacher, I have brought a new perspective and met my campaign pledge to improve this institution by reducing bureaucracy, prioritizing the classroom, improving our working environment and aligning our programs with local workforce needs. More specifically, we have: -Reorganized the Executive Committee, carefully reducing administrative positions to allocate funds for more important priorities like our new Student Success Centers -Revived the Academic Council to create a more collegial governance process -Partnered with LBUSD and CSULB in signing the Long Beach College Promise -Passed the 2020 Unified Master Plan to accommodate the future infrastructure needs of a growing student population -Improved our Workforce Training Programs, making LBCC the State's most successful applicant for grants in the California Clean Energy Workforce Training Program For these accomplishments, I am proud to have the endorsement of Mayor Bob Foster, Senator Alan Lowenthal, former Senator Betty Karnette, and many others. I respectfully ask for your vote so we can continue to prepare our students for future success. |
