Scott Malsin is a visionary leader with proven experience on the Culver City Council. He has been a champion for public safety, recreational opportunities, intelligent planning and the environment; has earned a reputation for responsiveness to the needs of his constituents; has demonstrated a skillful dedication to the City's fiscal stewardship; and has been a powerful voice for Culver City in the region and beyond. Elected to the City Council in 2006, Scott has made a difference in ways both big and small. From the newly-renovated Westfield Culver City to the Expo Line Aerial Station, Scott has helped to shape some of the greatest and most long-lasting advances in the City's built environment. From our community-building Park Enhancement Grant Program to our far-reaching "Green Building" regulations, Scott has helped make Culver City a more family-friendly and sustainable place. From bringing Culver City events like IndieCade - the Independent Video Game Festival - to promoting the arts, entertainment and dining throughout our community, Scott has helped put Culver City on the map. Currently serving as the Chairperson of the Westside Cities Council of Governments, the coordinating agency which brings our community together with Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, and the City and County of Los Angeles, Scott has been a strong voice promoting regional goals and cooperation. Along with representatives from the City and County of Los Angeles and the City of Santa Monica, he is a Director of the Exposition Construction Authority, which is building the first light rail line to serve the west side since the days of the Red Car. Scott has always been focused on making a difference, and he is proud of the great strides Culver City has taken over the last four years. He looks forward to making the next four even better. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Scott served on the Culver City Planning Commission from 2001 until 2006, when he was first elected to the City Council. As a Planning Commissioner, Scott fought to protect the character of our residential neighborhoods, helped craft the City's Open Space Ordinance, worked on a major update of our antiquated zoning code and laid the groundwork for the redevelopment of Westfield's Mall. A tireless supporter of neighborhood, community and the environment, Scott organized two major tree-planting projects that brought nearly 100 new trees to Culver City neighborhoods, has served on the board of environmental non-profit Ballona Creek Renaissance since 2001, and formed and continues to lead the Culver West Neighborhood Association. Scott was co-chair of Culver City's Fiesta La Ballona in 2003, helping to raise private funds to enhance this Culver City tradition and bring it up-to-date. He was active in the successful 2003 effort to keep Daniel Freeman Marina Hospital open, retaining a valuable healthcare resource for our region. He is a Past President of the Culver City Exchange Club, which raises money for local charities benefiting youth through great events like the Culver City Car Show and the Fourth July Fireworks Show at Culver City High School. A graduate of Yale University, Scott is a website designer. He lives in west Culver City with his wife Anne and daughter Arden, who is currently a student a Culver City's Farragut Elementary School.
