Transparency and Accountability to the Community - Leveraging TechnologyBy James "Jim" LombardiCandidate for Member, Board of Education; Tuckahoe Union Free School District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
As elected officials the Board has an obligation to provide the highest level of transparency and accounability to the community they serve. The best way to do this through frequent and meaningful communication throughout the entire year -- not just around budget approval time. Our District's online presence is lacking any real functionality to engage the community and foster the two-way dialogue that is healthy to government. Budget meetings -- when presented to the community on 30 year old "overhead projectors" lend very little credibility to our mission of preparing our students for tomorrow. Our teachers, principals, and superintendent have no electronic communications with their students, parents and taxpayers. Surrounding districts are publishing on-line classrooms while our students are shuffling papers back and forth in their book bags. |
