Economy
- Helped bring new businesses and jobs to the area
- Led the effort to give local workers a living wage
- Helped bring more affordable housing to town
Education, Schools, and Youth Services
- Led the effort to build Hayward's first two new schools in 45 years
- Currently helping to create the Hayward Youth Master Plan, bringing schools, the county, and local non-profits together to prevent school violence, reduce teen alcohol and drug use, and prevent teen pregnancy
- Established the Youth in Government Day, enabling local youth to come to City Hall and learn more about how local government works
- Fought to expand the local Weekes Branch Library, extend the hours of operation, bring in more books and computers, and increase library attendance among youth
Public Safety and Public Health
- Sponsored a grant program to help increase neighborhood emergency preparedness
- Supported the building of a new local fire station, and funding for paramedic and anti-gang programs
- Helped bring a Social Host Ordinance to Alameda County and the City of Hayward, so that if underage kids attend a party where a parent or guardian allows for underage drinking, that adult will be fined up to $1,000 and pay the cost of any police, fire, or paramedic response
- Supported the installation of cameras on red lights to catch reckless and drunk drivers
- Supported the local police department strategic plan, giving local police more training and better computer systems in order to track and prevent crime
- Helped bring a new health center to town
Environment
- Opposed housing development that would harm our hills, open space, and shoreline
- Supported green building, smart growth, and sustainability programs
- Opposed the building of the Eastshore Energy power plant
Transportation
- Supported the Highway 238 compromise project, preventing the destruction of local homes and businesses, ending a 50 year community dispute
- Pushed Caltrans to make highway upgrades along 880 and 92 that protected people's homes and improved transportation
- Helped lead the effort to build more transit-oriented development around the Hayward BART station
