Orange County, CA | June 8, 2010 Election |
Candidate StatementBy David L. BoydCandidate for Member; County Board of Education; Trustee Area 2 | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
For over twenty-five years it has been my privilege to lead The Taft University System. (http://www.TaftU.edu) Taft utilizes advancing technologies to provide educational opportunities to individuals around the world. I am particularly proud of our Master of Education and Doctor of Education Programs which were developed through major contributions from leading Orange County public school administrators and faculty. Unfortunately, Orange County schools are facing unprecedented economic challenges. Painful budget cuts may be necessary. My early career was in finance. As a CPA for over three decades combined with my service in education, I will bring to the Board unique financial expertise. My professional analysis of the budget will insure that our limited financial resources will be used efficiently. During this economic crisis, as your Board representative I will decline any compensation for my services. While some may consider this a token gesture, in times of crisis, leaders must lead by example. If economic sacrifices are necessary, leaders should not be exempt. Finally, it is my goal to work with all constituencies to insure fair and equal treatment of all students and to minimize, if not eliminate, partisan politics in actions taken by the Board. |
