We must elect a board member who understands the needs of our youth and is prepared to advocate on their behalf. The County Board of Education is not your typical school board. It is the government body tasked with the responsibility of making decisions that affect children with special needs and those facing obstacles in their education. My experience working on education policy with an emphasis on special and alternative education issues has prepared me for this position. However, what best prepares me to serve on the Board is my life experience and a deep personal conviction to help children who are facing challenges in their education.

I know what it is like to grow up poor. I know what it is like to be the child who fell through the cracks of the educational system. And, I know what it takes to overcome those obstacles. Despite my upbringing, I managed to graduate with a master's degree from U.C. Berkeley. I decided to dedicate my career to education and helping other youth with similar challenges. When making decisions, I will draw on my personal experience, as well as over ten years of professional experience working on education policy issues.

I care about our kids and will advocate for programs that are working for them, while making sure limited resources are not exhausted on programs that are not working. I believe all students should master the basics. In addition, they should be provided with afterschool programs and the opportunity to learn career and life skills as well. This is the only way we can assure all kids will lead a productive path in life.

My campaign is about engaging parents and the community in our educational system. I have walked our neighborhoods and listened to the concerns of teachers, parents, and residents. I am proud to have earned the support of many residents in our community, including a number of our elected officials. As a board member, I will continue to work hard to understand the needs of our community.
