Statement of PETE CONSTANT, Candidate for
Member, San Jose City Council, District 1

Occupation: Retired Police Officer/Educator/Councilmember            Age: 46
Education and Qualifications:
Four years ago San Jose was heading in the wrong direction. The influence of special interests and lobbyists had grown disproportionately strong. Scandals and indictments were daily news.
After 14 years protecting you as a San Jose Police Officer, you trusted me to protect you at City Hall. I've represented you in a fiercely independent way, focusing on fiscal integrity, pension reform, job creation, and even initiated a higher standard of openness and accessibility at City Hall.
I make sure your opinions, ideas, and complaints are heard and that action is taken. Together, we created 28 neighborhood associations to give a voice to every community. I've partnered with local schools to ensure our children have resources to learn and grow.
We've made changes at City Hall, but we must do more. We must continue to reduce the stranglehold of special interests, cut wasteful spending, balance the budget, and protect parks, police, libraries, and roads - essential services you pay for and deserve.
Mayor Chuck Reed supports and endorses my re-election.
You know me. I'm deeply invested in our community. I've lived here for 33 years, and am raising my five children here.
I ask for your vote once again.
