Statement of SAM T. LICCARDO, Candidate for
Member, San Jose City Council, District 3
Occupation: Councilmember, District Three Age: 39
Education and Qualifications:
Since 2007, I have been honored to serve you and our neighborhoods as your Councilmember. As I ask for your vote, please consider my record:
I've worked with our neighborhoods to attract three grocery stores, including Safeway; to halt the spread of bail bonds offices and liquor stores; to re-open two neighborhood pools; to expand two child care centers; to rebuild the Roosevelt Community Center, Watson Park, and the Ellington and East Carnegie Libraries; and to preserve the use of the hospital site for a future medical clinic.
In the Downtown, I've led efforts to create incentives for businesses--including a technology innovation center--to open and grow here; to improve safety through more collaborative policing; to build an Urban Market at San Pedro Square; and to facilitate the construction of privately-financed professional baseball and soccer stadiums.
More broadly, I've spearheaded citywide measures to incentivize banks to seek alternatives to foreclosure; to distribute affordable housing beyond the downtown; to promote transit, cycling, and other alternatives to the automobile; and to protect open space from development.
I look forward to working with you in the years ahead. To learn more about my campaign, please visit http://www.SamLiccardo.com.
