Restoring the public confidence and maintaining an acceptable level of service with declining financial resources are primary goals.
During my 30 years with the San Luis Obispo Police Department, I worked a variety of assignments. My experience includes creating and commanding the County Bomb Task Force and the Police SWAT Team. I graduated from Cal Poly with a BS degree in Industrial Technology and a MBA with honors from the University of Redlands. I served four years as a SLO County Supervisor including chairman of the board in 2007. This combination of experience and owning and operating a successful small business for 35 years gives me a thorough understanding of law enforcement, county government, budget administration and ethical leadership.
The most important challenges next year will be restoring the public confidence, the integrity of the Sheriff's Office and maintaining an acceptable level of service with declining financial resources.
Ensuring our tax dollars provide the highest level of service will be accomplished through a comprehensive assessment and the development of a strategic plan. Identifying costs, service levels and revenue enhancements will be routinely evaluated with regular input from staff and community members to successfully achieve our goals and meet the public's expectations.
At the end of my first term, I promise the Sheriff's Office will be well respected, efficient, and an effective law enforcement organization. I will execute on the following in the first six months of office which will make the Sheriff's Office credible and restore the public's trust and confidence.
Within 90 days, I will develop a plan with the assistance of department members to ensure our personnel are properly deployed to maximize our ability to address specific issues of improved patrol effectiveness, gang suppression, narcotics enforcement, investigative services, support functions and expand volunteer services.
Within 6 months, collaborative partnerships will be established with Probation, Mental Health and Drug and Alcohol Services to streamline correctional operations and provide treatment programs for inmates. This "team approach" will function seamlessly to better deliver services and avoid costly overlap while maintaining and protecting the confidentiality of our clients. This holistic approach will reduce recidivism rates, return people to a productive life, save tax dollars currently spent on jail costs and allow more deputies to be on patrol where they are desperately needed.
I would be honored to have your vote for SLO County Sheriff.
