Ensure every dollar is being spent to help studentsAs a former President of the San Leandro School Board Joyce knows what it takes to provide the education our kids deserve. During her tenure the San Leandro School District had 6 California Distinguished Schools, including San Leandro High, the most honors the district has ever received. As a proud graduate and former Student Body officer of San Leandro High, Joyce is committed to making our schools the best they can be. While a City Council member, Joyce has saved the School District over $120,000 by negotiating free garbage collection for the schools. She found funding for our crossing guards already in the budget, as opposed to spending general fund money we just don't have. Additionally, she spearheaded the opening of the Washington Manor Branch Library and restored Sunday library hours throughout the city. As Mayor, Joyce will support the return of the DARE program for our kids and will make sure school programs get critical funding. She is committed to working with teachers, parents and administrators to build consensus around goals for our students and will work tirelessly to achieve them. She will relentlessly pursue all federal and state grants to get our schools desperately needed resources, and will work with the school district to ensure every dollar is spent to benefit students. |
