Political Philosophy for Scott Miller
Candidate for |

|
I was privileged to serve as Pacific Grove's police chief for six years and as a Council Member for four years, including two years as Mayor Pro Tempore. My public service has included seventeen years as a police officer with the Salinas Police Department, where I rose through the ranks to become a Captain/Division Commander. I began my law enforcement career as a deputy sheriff in 1976. I'd be honored to continue serving my community as the next Sheriff of Monterey County. I believe integrity, competence, and moral courage are the most important characteristics elected officials should possess. Do you believe the current sheriff is living up to your standards in these areas? As your Sheriff, I pledge to provide competent and trustworthy leadership, as I have demonstrated throughout my public career. The lasting impact of bad decisions can devastate our County for many years. Everyone in this County deserves to have their voice heard, whether or not they belong to a special interest group. Everyone should be treated with equal respect and dignity. No one should be marginalized because they possess different views than those in power. Hundreds of people in diverse Monterey County communities are outraged over the treatment they have received at the hands of the current sheriff. I believe it's time to restore a sense of fairness, dignity and respect to the Office of the Sheriff. After more than thirty years of public service, I'm conversant on the issues involved in running a large law enforcement agency properly. I commanded all three divisions that comprise the Salinas Police Department, the largest police agency on the Central Coast. I've supervised hundreds of employees and managed multi-million dollar public safety budgets for more than fourteen years. I have a passionate interest in preserving the best things from the Sheriff's Department's storied past, while doing the things necessary to successfully move the Department into the future. I have identified a number of priority issues that I will address as Sheriff. Please visit my website at millerforsheriff2010.com for more specific details. I will consider it an honor to serve you as the next Monterey County Sheriff. Scott Miller |
