I hold an M.A. from California State University, Chico. After Graduate School, I took my first professional job with the Monterey County Planning Department and worked there for five years on general plan, area plan and trails plan programs. During this time, I also worked evaluating development proposals and served as staff to the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors in hearings on project review and approvals. Since 1990, I have been employed in the private sector perfoming work in land use and working on large scale development projects. In this capacity, I have been successful in obtaining regulatory agency approvals that have resulted in the creation of hundreds of full and part-time construction jobs and permanent, well-paying full and part-time property management jobs, with benefits. This experience is essential when contemplated much-needed revitalization of Salinas' city center. In addition to my professional life, I have served my community as a volunteer on a number of volunteer Boards, including parks and rec, fire, housing and historic preservation. This experience has given me the opportunity to work well with a diverse group of people from all walks of life. This is another skill I would bring to the City Council. Finally, when my wife and I had the opportunity to buy our first home, we chose Salinas over Carmel Valley and the Monterey Peninsula, Salinas is a wonderful place to live and work and I beleive that this is an important consideration the voters should be aware of. |
