Candidate for
Board Member; Santa Barbara High School District

My father was in the Air Force, and I attended public and private schools around the world before he retired in 1977 and our family moved to the South Coast. I then attended school in Carpinteria until 1985, when I left to attend U.C. Berkeley. After graduating with a bachelor's degree, I returned to the Santa Barbara area in 1992.

Before my election to the Santa Barbara School Board in November 2006, I was a PTA president, a school site council representative, and the Adams Elementary school board liaison. During my time on the Board, I have served as the Board President, Board Vice President, and as a member of the Santa Barbara County School Boards Association Executive Board, where I am currently the Vice President of Planning. I am in the process of completing Masters in Governance training through the California School Boards Association.

I am married to Ian Parker--a scientist at DuPont Displays in Goleta--and we have three children in the Santa Barbara School Districts: a son and daughter at Adams Elementary School, and a son who started Santa Barbara High School this fall. I also work part-time as a librarian at Cate School in Carpinteria.
