I am running for Supervisor to serve the residents of Santa Clara County. There are serious challenges facing us at every level of government. I want to apply my public and professional experience to help find solutions that will lead the recovery process and position the County to prosper. I have worked with elected, business and community leaders to find innovative answers to complex issues, and I understand that change is needed to create a more responsive County to better address economic growth, job creation, improved employee relations, performance and efficiency, health care reform, transportation improvements, climate change challenges, green vision enhancements and improve County/Cities relationships. I want to insure that the County can deliver on their responsibilities to the residents of Santa Clara County. I am up to the challenge and excited about the opportunity to serve. I deliver on my commitments.

I believe that my successful track record of achievements speaks to my continued dedication to support and protect the community as a whole and specifically the residents that I represent. My background includes many years of public and professional experience: 12 years as a School Board Trustee; 8 years as a San Jose Planning Commissioner; 8 years as a San Jose City Councilmember. These years of experience have provided me with the skills to perform at the County Supervisor level. My public experience and performance is a matter of record. As a professional Engineer at IBM for 35 years, I contributed to the technological innovations that spurred the economic growth of Silicon Valley and the world.

In addition to my top priorities that I will begin to work on immediately once I am elected, I feel it is important to share where I believe we need to focus in regards to some of the key issues plaguing Santa Clara County.

The top three issues I see in District 1 are as follows:

  • Creating jobs, job training and stimulating the local economy. I believe Silicon Valley has led the world with hi-tech and internet companies. I believe we can once again lead a worldwide movement towards green companies and energy that will get our economy going again. We also need to improve job opportunities through retraining so that the members of our community have the opportunity to find gainful employment in areas that are actively hiring.
  • Protecting health care and health insurance for children in the County.
  • Education - As a former School Board Member, education is an important issue for me. Unfortunately our children have been the ones to bear the brunt of a struggling State economy. We must find a way to combat that issue. Our children are our future and we all need to find a way to provide them with the tools they will need to be successful.

I believe that if the community as a whole; government, community organizations, residents and businesses come together with a sincere collaborative effort, we can meet and succeed in responding and reducing the negative impact effecting Santa Clara County.

I have and always will have an open door policy towards our community. As an elected official, I do not believe that I should be insulated from the community in which I serve. Once elected, I become your representative and will work to insure the concerns and issues facing District 1 are heard. The only way I can guarantee that I am representing my district appropriately is to interface and meet with you on a regular basis. I plan to create a regular meeting schedule where I hold meetings within the various geographical areas throughout the community.

I have a successful track record of being an effective, productive and collaborative leader within the community. I am a man of action and focus on getting things done. As your representative, I will bring your collective voice to the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors.

I respectfully ask for your vote on Tuesday, June 8, 2010, as the next Santa Clara County Supervisor for District 1.
