My name is Kimberley Beatty and I'm running for PUSD School Board because I care passionately about education. It is one of the biggest, most important gifts we can give to our children, as well as the best investment we can make in our society. I currently serve as Legislation Chair for three PTA Boards. As Legislation Chair, I stay current on education and legislative issues at the local, state and federal levels. I present reports at PTA board meetings, write newsletter articles, and also inform our elected representatives about how they can best support our schools. This year I was the California PTA's lead coordinator for San Diego County for the ballot initiative "Local Control of Local Classrooms Funding Act." Recently I attended a 3-day State PTA Legislation Conference in Sacramento, where I spoke before education panels at the Capitol, and met with State Senators, Assembly Members, and staff from the Governor's office to discuss the current education crisis and challenge them to craft real solutions. My husband and I have four children in the Poway Unified School District, with 29 total student-years of experience among them. Both of us volunteer in the classroom every year and participate in fieldtrips and other activities. I also make occasional presentations to high school government/civics classes. I received a BA from the University of Virginia and a law degree from the University of Maryland, graduating in the top of my class. I am a former federal drug agent, having worked as a special agent for DEA and ATF. My husband, who is also a graduate of the University of Maryland, is a software developer. We and our four children, aged 8 to 15, live in Sabre Springs. For several years I served as a member of the Sabre Springs Planning Board. Both my husband and I are avid marathoners and recently completed the 114th Boston Marathon. Our weekends are filled enjoying our children's participation in soccer, swimming, track and 5K races. |
