Political Philosophy for John T. Munsie

West Mifflin Borough, along with the entire Country has faced and will continue to face some very challenging and difficult economic times. While on council the past 3 and a half years I have supported measures that allowed the Borough to complete a number of capital improvement projects that have included road paving, public works and police vehicle purchases and initiatives that have saved and will continue to save the Borough money in to the future. During these difficult economic times I have not voted to raise taxes nor will I vote to raise taxes on the residents of West Mifflin. Raising taxes on the single most important investment our residents have, their property is counter productive to economic growth and unduly places a burden on those who may be struggling already. The Borough must find ways to cut costs and generate new sources of revenue. We have to right-size the Borough given the decline in tax revenues we have realized over the past 4 years. Not raise taxes. I supported a new recycling program in the Borough that not only expands materials we recycle, but also generates new revenues we have not seen before. So far this program has generated revenues to the tune of $2500 to $3500 per month and these revenues are climbing. I have also supported efforts that produced grant funding to create a dedicated soccer complex in the Borough that we have never had before. I also supported and backed efforts by our current Mayor to began a Lifespan Senior Citizens Center at our Borough Building. |
