Charter SchoolsBy Stephen Samuel WinklerCandidate for Governing Board Member; Saugus Union School District | |

School ChoiceI have worked in both the public school sector and in the charter schools. Charter schools have better discipline. The students are ready to learn. The teachers are professional dressed. Many parents have selected charter schools, because the public schools have not met their expectations. The answer to this problem is in the improvement of our public schools, not the rejection of the charter schools. For example, allow me to show West Creek Elementary School as an example. It is a new school. They have an outstanding language arts program. They have an excellent program for art and music. However, they also have a bullying problem. That bullying problem has not been solved. Concerned parents will solve that problem by the enrollment of their children into a charter school. Our country was established on the principle of choice and competition. Incidentally, in that connection, how do you think, we won World War II? Our War Department requested a design for a long-range bomber. Before the selection of the Boeing B-17, Martin proposed the modification of the B-10 and Douglas converted their C-47/DC-3 design into the B-18. The Flying Fortress bombed the Third Reich into submission, only because our competitive spirit forced Boeing to either design a superior bomber or lose the contract to her chief rival, Douglas. The presence of charter schools will force our public schools to make massive improvements in the education of our children. The charter schools will set the bar even higher. Parents will have a choice; children will get a superior education; everybody will win in the long run. |
