Jeanne Byrne Water Leadership for our Future

Our Problem We are facing State-imposed rationing by 2014 and additional rationing in 2016 totaling 60% reduction in our current water use. Conservation Won't Stop Rationing

  • Through conservation the Monterey Peninsula has the lowest water use in the State of California
  • Decreased water supply - by the end of 2016, Cal Am Water Co. is required to decrease the water it takes from the Carmel River by 60%
  • Decreased available water for residents and business - the reduction in water supply will be imposed on the water users of the Monterey Peninsula
  • 2014 - water rationing will reduce your use by 40% of what you currently use
  • 2016 - water rationing will reduce your use by 60% of what your currently use We cannot conserve our way out of the pending rationing crisis. Human Environment
  • The State requirement to reduce the water taken from the Carmel River is to resolve the natural environmental needs of the River. It is now critical that we provide for the Human Environment with a sustainable drought-resistant water project.

Providing For A Future For The Monterey Peninsula We need a Future for Jobs, Families, Businesses And Quality of Life

For a future for the Peninsula, the Water Management District Board needs a majority of members that actually want you to have water, that is not dependent on rationing. I can provide the balance that is needed. Leadership

I will provide leadership for:

  • A sustainable water supply that will allow for future jobs, businesses and families.
  • Extending use of reclaimed water for parks and areas such as Pacific Grove's golf course and cemetery.
  • Water Management District Projects - such as aquifier storage and recovery, and other proposed projects. Water for the Peninsula is now a crisis! We must all work together to move a viable project forward by 2016.

I Appreciate Your Vote On November 8

Our future depends on a sustainable water supply that does not require rationing.
