1. Maintaining academic excellence at all levels in the Carmel School District Between 2004 and 2009 both Carmel MIddle School and Carmel High School raised their academic performance levels versus their peer schools around the state from the lowest deciles to 10/10 ratings, the very highest possible. A remarkable achievement on the part of our teachers and the rest of the District. Maintaining excellence is often more difficult than achieving it. Strong, committed leadership is needed to keep the District focused on this most essential responsibility, and I will provide that leadership 2. Maintaining the excellence of our teaching faculty by attracting and keeping the best educators we can find The only way to achieve and maintain academic excellence is to hire, motivate, and retain the best possible teachers. It is our teaching faculty that has got us to this point and as a Board member I will be committed to its continual improvement. 3. Wisely using our extraordinary resources to provide the best possible preparation for success in life for all our students We have extraordinary educational resources in the Carmel School District. First of all our children, who are smart and capable students. Next our families and the larger community who are extremely supportive of the District. We have excellent teachers and administrators, superb facilities, and, for the moment, very strong financial resources. However, we are also facing the challenges of steadily rising enrollments and tighter finances and it is imperative that we wisely use these resources to continue providing the best possible education for ALL our students, not just the highest and lowest performing, but also the large number in the middle. |
